Overview

The following is going to tell how the development of transportation has impacted our nation between the American Revolution and the Civil War. Below is information about some examples of development and at the bottom is a video.

Erie Canal

The Erie Canal was made in 1825 to increase transport speed Albany and Buffalo and to cut costs by about 95%. It took about 15 years to construct. At first, it took a while to start building and the main idea the builders wanted to cover was to connect the east coast with the settlements further inland. The original was 363 miles long! It was made one of the most influential human-made waterway in North America.

Trains

These began being built during the Industrial Revolution when George Stephenson came up with the idea. A man named William Jessup came up with the idea for flanged wheels, or wheels with special ridges in them to help grip the rails.
